At home a second letter appears to have been delivered, in which his colleague and future wife Renée is also threatened. They are concerned, but have no leads. The threat becomes real when an attack on Paul and Renée's house one night leaves them stunned. They are placed under surveillance and continue working on the case of a child who fell from a balcony under suspicious circumstances. On their wedding day, they are just leaving town hall – through a guard of honor of colleagues in uniform – when an automatic weapon is aimed at them from a moving car.
