Beer stays in sports canteen

A lot of fuss last week. The newspapers were full of possible anti-alcohol measures such as a complete ban on sports canteens, a ban on the sale of wine or specialty beers in the supermarket, a substantial increase in excise duty and even a minimum price for alcoholic beverages. Van Ooijen recently reported that the list of anti-alcohol measures is already two years old and is not a wish list of the cabinet.

After the summer, the State Secretary will present proposals to reduce alcohol consumption. But these will not be radical proposals that cannot count on support in the cabinet and the House of Representatives, he said. Instead of imposing all sorts of prohibitions, he prefers to encourage positive behaviour. Source: nos.nl. The new proposals should significantly reduce alcohol consumption in order to achieve the main goals of the National Prevention Agreement.

The National Prevention Agreement contains agreements between more than 70 different organizations, such as healthcare umbrella organizations, companies, municipalities and educational institutions. The main goals of the National Prevention Agreement 2040 are:

*Smoke Free Generation

*A maximum of 38% of the adult Dutch is then overweight (now about 50%)

*Young people and pregnant women no longer drink alcohol

*The number of adult Dutch people who drink too much alcohol has then fallen to a maximum of 5% (is now 8.8%).
