Isn't it hot? This way you keep it cool between the sheets!

Temperatures rose quickly and considerably this week. Tropical weather is a blessing for some and a curse for others. Because sleeping in the heat can sometimes be difficult. That's why we come up with tips. This way you keep it cool between the sheets.

Twisting, tossing and sweating: for some, warm nights also equal 'ceiling service'. So the nights are long. How it is that you have difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep during hot nights depends on your body temperature. This should drop in the evening, because that makes your body sleepy. But in heat it doesn't do that enough. Your body cannot lose the heat at high temperatures in the evening, so you do not get sleepy. But this suffering can be alleviated with the following tips.

Cotton sheets

No matter how fine satin or silk feels, it is not breathable. Cotton does.

Take a lukewarm shower before going to bed

This causes your blood vessels to expand and you lose the heat faster.

Sheets in the fridge

Yes, of course. Put your (cotton!) sheets in a plastic bag and then put them in the fridge or freezer.

Eat healthy and exercise

Inkoper perhaps, but exercise makes your body tired in a natural way, so that you fall asleep better. And avoid heavy or fatty meals.

cold water bottle

Normally you fill that jug with hot water, but not now. Fill the pitcher with cold water and place it in the fridge/freezer.

No alcohol

You haven't already, because you're taking a break. So this tip is not a real tip for now, but it is something to take with you for the future. Alcohol, whether it's hot or not, has a negative effect on your sleep anyway. It messes up your entire sleep cycle. Read more about the effects of alcohol on your sleep here.
