First introduce myself; I am Charlotte and mother of three sons and one daughter. With my job, a large family and a husband who flies, it is always hectic and my days are quickly scheduled. At the end of the afternoon, catching up with each other has become a fixed ritual for us. A moment together before I start cooking. A glass of wine at the end of the day and the question has also become a bit of a ritual; 'do you want white or a bubble'. This started to bother me more and more. Also when I asked about 0/0 wines in a restaurant and my table mates looked at me in surprise and thought something of it.
Last December I started reading more and more about Dry January and all the benefits of an alcohol break. My goal is to be fresh, radiant and fit. I then planned to only do Dry January in the Netherlands. I don't keep Dry January in the plane and other countries, unless a 0/0 variant is available. The month of January went very well, there was only one moment when I felt like a glass of wine.
We have an apartment in Southern Europe and after a good search, I discovered some 0/0 wines in a large local supermarket, including a delicious 0/0 rosé. They don't know it in the restaurants, but they do know the 0/0 lager. When I had two days left for a mini-vacation, I only had a glass of wine by the sea with lunch and left it at that.
Now with the '40 days not a drop' the challenge is getting bigger, because after the weekend we will drive through Germany for two days by car and travel back via Maastricht. And later in the month I fly with my husband to Bonaire for a few days. And I want to keep up with the 'not a drop' challenge! I have really liked it so far. Everything they say is true; I sleep better, feel fit, my skin is better and I am much more energetic.
We still have the 5 o'clock moment. Why should I walk our dachshund Pip at that time, when I've walked during the day and been busy all day. My daily rhythm is not wrong, I just don't want alcohol anymore and in the long term only at very unique moments. I started the year well and that feels so good. Even the family joins in the 0/0 Freixenet when we have something to celebrate. I will keep you informed of my challenge '40 days not a drop'. We are going for it and I wish everyone the best of luck!
