Bye sister! Bye alcohol!
Wednesday January 1, 2020
It's 13:15 when I wake up. A pounding headache overtakes me. "I'm never going to drink again," I tell my mother as I stumble into the living room. It's not the first time I've said that. In one way or another I still manage to consume just one or more glasses too much. But not this month! Now that IkPas has started, I am determined not to consume alcohol for the next 30 days. This is my fourth year participating and so far I have always done well.
The first challenge is scheduled for tonight. My sister's farewell party, who is going to England for a year. At the same time, it is a New Year's reception and in the end everyone is festive with a glass of wine or beer in hand. But not me! Besides the fact that I don't feel the need for it at all, I'm not going to touch a glass of alcohol this month. I get through the evening with 3 cups of tea and a glass of spa red: quite festive if you ask me.
Thursday January 2
We say goodbye to my sister one more time (but this time for real!). This time with the four of us, papa mama, Lianne and me. We go out for dinner and normally this includes a nice glass of pinot grigio, a specialty beer or cocktail, but tonight I also turn down with ease. Instead, I drink an alcohol-free cocktail, just as delicious. We are home quite late, after which I immediately go to bed. easypeasy.
Friday January 3rd
Weekend! Normally a party and night out, but tonight I'm taking it easy. I have my first working day at my new employer and because it is super busy, we forget the Friday afternoon drink. Good, because that also prevents social disappointments. 'Ah Paula, your first day at work! Have a beer." No, at 19:30 my working day is over and I end my evening with a movie and a cup of tea. Great first (half) week like this!
