Throw and Fight Region
Take the challenge: no alcohol in January! IkPas will start again on 1 January. This national campaign calls on people not to drink alcohol for a month. Participants become more aware of their own drinking habits and can experience for themselves what it is like to live alcohol-free for a while.
More than 8 out of 10 adults in the Gooi en Vechtstreek region sometimes drink alcohol. And almost 1 in 5 adults in the region drink excessively (women more than 7 glasses per week, men more than 14 glasses per week). Drinking an occasional glass of alcohol can pass into a habit unnoticed. IkPas can help break this habit.
IPAS: ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION ON BREAK
In the Gooi en Vecht region, hundreds of people participate in Dry January every year, organized by IkPas with the support of the GGD Gooi en Vechtstreek. Alderman Joke Lanphen, former general practitioner and driver of alcohol prevention in the Gooi en Vechtstreek region: 'By participating in IkPas and consciously not drinking a drop all month, people notice what this does for their health. Many participants can sleep better, feel fitter afterwards and even lose weight – advantages enough. That's why I encourage everyone: "Take up the challenge and prove to yourself: I can hold on!".
GGD Gooi en Vechtstreek publicizes this action in the region, among other things through outdoor advertising, the distribution of informative and fun books about (quitting) alcohol through mini-libraries, an advertisement in the Gooise TamTam and through social media.
MORE SUPPORT
For some people, abstaining from alcohol for a month is more difficult than they thought beforehand. Extra or personal support is possible, information can be found at www.ggdgv.nl/alcohol.
